About

I have a combination of life experiences and training that offers my clients deeper insights into what is needed to increase one's satisfaction and contentment with life.  Life is not without struggles or disappointments, but how we interpret these experiences can affect us positively or negatively. Our early childhood experiences have shaped who we are, how we see ourselves in the world and how we others.  If our experiences were scare or we felt unloved our interactions with ourself, others and the world will be scary and empty.  This can be a profound internal sense of emptiness, not belonging or inability to feel secure in the world.  This is often why people come to treatment.  It is a deeper searching for meaning and fulfillment.

How I Got Here

I have been a licensed professional counselor (LPC) since 2008; in 2013 I became a Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor.  Prior to becoming an LPC I worked as a certified rehabilitation counselor for 23 years.  I have been practicing EMDR for several years and became certified this year.  My master’s degree was obtained at San Diego University in 2002.

I have had several years working for a state agency whose mission was to put people with disabilities to work.  This work led me to pursue full time therapy and I began working for a private agency focusing on foster care, families at risk and teens at risk.  Before beginning my private practice, I worked with adults struggling with addiction, dependency, and abuse.

More About Me

I have included some pictures of me and my life. I am sure if you are going to trust me to help with your life’s journey you may want to know about my life. I have been married twice and widowed once. I experienced a good marriage and a challenging marriage. What I discovered is relationships are complex and have many faucets. I cherish all my life experiences, even the struggles. Struggles grow and stretch us, struggles change us. I have two wonderful children and three grandchildren and may friends.

I love creating things with my hands and seeing things grow. My home in the mountains of north Georgia has plenty of space to cultivate varies plants. During times of struggle, I learned how to refurnish old furniture, which became a hobby of mine. A little work and a creative mind can make anything beautiful. Nature is a source of inspiration and renewal for me. I love walking the trails in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. There is a spiritual quality in nature that is expressed in the sound of birds, rushing water and leaves rustling. When I am alone in the woods, a peaceful serenity settles on my Spirit and renews my soul.

As I look forward to the remaining years of my life, I want to reach out to those who still carry the wounds that life often inflicts on us. I hope this information has been helpful as you contemplate what your own needs. I welcome you and hope we can journey together on your trail of discovery.
